SHINYANGA REGION LAUNCHES ITS REGIONAL INVESTMENT GUIDE PARALLEL WITH TRADE AND MINERAL TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION.

    On November 28th, 2020, Shinyanga Region launched its Regional Investment Guide parallel with Trade and Mineral Technology Exhibition. The Investment Guide was developed by the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) with the support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    The event was officiated by Honorable Engineer Robert Gabriel- Geita Regional Commissioner. In his speech he called miners and investors to choose Shinyanga as their investment destination. The event brought together a good number of people who are involved in mining sector, trade and general public from Shinyanga region and other regions.

    In her welcoming remarks, Honorable Zainab Telack- the Shinyanga Region Commissioner thanked the team of experts from ESRF for good work as well as dedicating their expertise and resources to prepare the Shinyanga Investment Guide and the UNDP for their support to make the study possible.

    Hon. Telack informed the participants that the exercise to identify investment opportunities was conducted in all LGAs of Shinyanga Region which are Shinyanga Municipal Council, Kahama Town Council, Shinyanga District Council, Kishapu District Council, Ushetu District Council, and Msalala District Council.

    Hon. Telack exposed that, the guide has detailed a number of investment opportunities in all councils including establishment of specialised skills training institute; construction of Kahama Business Hub and Logistics Centre; leather and leather products processing; mining and mineral processing; animal feeds processing; textile production; edible oil production; modern ginneries for cotton processing; cotton processing for health-care related products such as bandages and wool; paddy processing, sorting, grading, packaging and branding; lentils farming and processing; production of pipes, steel and security amenities; dairy processing; cotton farming; building irrigation infrastructure for paddy and horticulture crops; paddy irrigation farming; fish farming, hatcheries and technologies; ranches and cattle fattening; aggregate production; gypsum and cement production; construction of modern agriculture markets; construction of modern bus stand; tourism; establishment of private schools; gypsum and cement production; and construction of health care facilities; etc.

    Dr. Bohela Lunogelo- Principal Research Associate who represented Dr. Tausi Kida- Executive Director ESRF acknowledged the mutual cooperation shown by various stakeholders from regional to ward level, saying the Guide has represented the views of people of Shinyanga Region.

    He called upon all stakeholders to join hands in implementing the guide since has a lot to offer in mineral, agriculture value chain, infrastructure and many other opportunities for the development of Shinyanga region and the nation at large. ESRF assured the region of continued support in the implementation of the guide by assisting the LGAs to prepare feasibility studies and business plans in some of the opportunities they may want to invest. Likewise, UNDP under the representation of Mr. Amon Manyama - Head of Programmes, assured the region of continued support in the implementation of the guide.

    In attendance were also Honorable Patrobas Katambi, Member of Parliament for Shinyanga Town Constituency, Honorable Elias John Kwandikwa, Member of Parliament for Ushetu Constituency, officials from Shinyanga and other regions, miners, investors, businessmen and women, development partners, NGOs, religious institutions, and the general public.

    Shinyanga Region Investment Guide provides investment information to prospective local and foreign firms, individuals, and attracts potential investors in the regions in order to stimulate both business and enterprise development and growth. In addition, the investment guide is intended to enhance regions’ competitiveness in areas where it has strengths as well as in emerging economic areas. The guide gears to assist potential investors in making specific and general investment decisions.
