Subject : Ikulu's Fire
I can't help it. Do we need more proof of incompetence, ineffectiveness, ineptitude and useleness of those that lead us. How can a Presidential resident and office catch fire? Best of all, why can't the Presidential house/office have its own fire truck and fire extinguisher systems, what about a fire alarm system, that connect automatically to the firehouse, police and presidential security? It is mentioned that they used Ultimate Security to help out with security and fire! Do we trust our president safety and national security to a bunch of private company? (see link below)
In all developd country all houses, even in the ghetto, as a building code must have the fire alarm. All design and buildings have water tanks underneath within every 100 feet. While at my house, every time I cook any slight smoke from my oven barbeque, triggers the fire alarm. I hate it, but Ilive in 45th floor, so I understand it. Does not mean these countries experience no fire hazards, they do but the damage is minimized. Now, here we have the presidential house/office, that has none of the basic fire prevention or detection equipment.
If a house/office of the President is not safe, what about the rest of the houses, hospitals, schools, etc, etc, in the rest of the country? Worse, can we as a country sustain any worse damages in our infrastructure caused by gas lines, petroleum, electricity faults, or any other terrorism induced damages?
If a president can not ensure his house and office is safe, can he ensure the rest of the country is safe? What does this says about his leadership, either the presidents is so incompetent that the rest of the people he leads or work with are just the same, inspired by his incompetency or his people that he trust are so incompetent that makes him just as bad for having selected those people. But hte most important is what kind a message does this send to the rest of the world?
Is our country and President that vulnerable ?
Or was it just part of daily order of African corruption, president included, blew TSh 3 billion with nothing to show for, so why don't we just burn the building?
You be the judge.
I said it before and I'm going to say it again. Unless, we have cultural change, that of demanding perfection, responsibility, and accountability we will forever be doomed. Unless we develope the culture of discontent, we can go on and make all excuses in the world, while we feel sorry for ourselves, and continue to perish in poverty, ignorance and distress.
Our attitude is that of sitting and waiting, tolerating stupidity, corruption, ineptitude and lack of accountability. We have to develop that culture of liking prosperity and self respect. That can only happen if rule of law is reinforced, competent and smart people lead us.
I believe in man ability to uplift him or herself. No help will be coming from Europe or USA. In fact, they could care less if and when Africa perish, look at Rwanda Masscare, South Africa apartheid, Congo Masacre, Sudan, Ethiopia hunger disaster and AIDS disaster. The only time you see Africa in Western TV is to reinforce the negativity of hunger, self hatred(ethnic cleansing), and other political, economical and social tensions.
I have learn to accept that most people back home don't even come close to comprehend what I'm talking about. The concept of progress and development is an illusions to most people even those who ared educated and have access to internet. I believe in experience, you can teach and lecture all day about swimming, but unless some one get into the swimminng pool and does it, they'll think they know swimming, but really they don't. Development, progress, see it onTV, reading it on the internet, magazine, its a whole different from actual living it, and participate in it. It took me five years to click, to understand the culture, the mentality and the organization of the western society and its capital market system. Mostly important, what it took them to get here, and continue to get better. I have been here for 12 some years, and I'm still learning every day. They say, the world is an open book.
What I'm particularly proud of is, I get to do what the colonialist did to us. I make money in their countries after obtaining their education, using the same resources as everyone else, than I could ever do it in my own country. Thank God, to democracy and the rule of law, coming all the way from Africa to make it in this country is trully a blessing.
But so does a lot of young people from American ghetto, Snoop Doggy Dog, Puff Daddy, JayZ, etc, all started with nothing now they are multi-millionaires with their mansions with swimming pool and Rollys Royce.
In conclusion, the point is, with a good governance, democractic system, that demand responsibility, accountability and respect for the rule of law, that fosters competence, effectivenes, and competition instead of bureaucracy, nepotism and corruption, as a way of doing business, it proves that even wamachinga's(Snoop, P.Diddy, Jay Z. LL Cool J) can become millionaires. Now that's what we call the the american dream.
Can we now make the Tanzanian dream?
