ABOUT IFP- TANZANIA

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) was started in East Africa in the year 2000, with a regional secretariat based at the Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA) offices, Kampala, Uganda. In order to serve the East African region effectively, the Program opened offices in Kenya and Tanzania in October 2003.

The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) is hosting the program in Tanzania, and the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is the host in Kenya. The Association for Higher Education Advancement and Development (AHEAD) is hosting the program in Uganda.

IFP Tanzania has carried out seven(7) successful rounds of selection. 40 Alumni from the first five (5) cohorts have so far successfully completed their studies and returned to the country.

IFP - Tanzania provides fellowships for post-graduate study to exceptional individuals with potential leadership qualities from marginalized groups or communities or civil societies in Tanzania who systematically lack access to education opportunities. IFP scholarships will enable them to access higher education at Masters and Doctorate degree levels, so that on their return, these individuals will come back and use their education to further development in their own communities and the nation, thus ultimately bringing about social and economic justice world wide.
