J-PAL Africa, in collaboration with the Impact Evaluation Lab at ESRF is organizing a course, “Conducting Experimental Research,” in Dar es Salaam from 4-9 July 2024. This course is targeted at PhD students and researchers in economics (or a closely related field) based at universities in sub-Saharan Africa with an interest in using randomized evaluations to evaluate programs and policies. Participants will learn about needs assessments, advanced randomization methods, sample size calculation, and how to mitigate threats to validity. They will also get guidance on drafting funding proposals and be matched with a J-PAL mentor for further proposal writing support after the course. The course will be held in English and is free to attend. There is limited funding available for accepted participants who are unable to cover the costs of travel to the course.
