Amb. Maimuna Kibenga Tarishi recently concluded her tenure as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, where she advanced Tanzania’s interests through high-level negotiations. She held key leadership roles, including President of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board (2021–2022), overseeing the “Bridgetown Covenant” aimed at addressing global inequality and fostering prosperity for all.
Before her Geneva appointment, Amb. Tarishi served as Permanent Secretary in multiple Tanzanian ministries (2006–2019), overseeing major initiatives such as relocating the government to Dodoma, establishing the Tanzania Forestry Services Agency (TFSA) and Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA), and combating poaching. She also led efforts in decentralization by devolution, improving fiscal, human resource, and legal frameworks for local government authorities.
Amb. Tarishi’s public service career spans decades, with extensive contributions to governance in Tanzania.
