The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), a policy research think tank in Tanzania, conducts and disseminates research aimed at enhancing understanding of policy options and development management. ESRF’s mandate also includes strengthening the capacity of both producers and users of knowledge. In line with this mandate, one of the Foundation’s flagship research and capacity development programmes is the Impact Evaluation Laboratory. The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of the national workforce to conduct rigorous impact evaluation research while fostering and sustaining a vibrant community of practice in impact evaluation in Tanzania. The programme is supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

Under the auspices of the Impact Evaluation Laboratory, ESRF is pleased to announce a short-term Course on Impact Evaluation. The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge, practical skills, and methodologies required to design and conduct rigorous impact evaluations. It will be delivered to a cohort of 40 participants through two interrelated modules, with the second module building on the knowledge and skills acquired in the first. The course is intended for researchers, policy and programme analysts, government officials, academics, and development practitioners interested in strengthening their capacity to undertake impact evaluations. Lectures and case studies will draw on practical examples from Africa. Prior experience in impact evaluation is not required.

The course is structured into the following two modules:
